Bangkok closes 103 schools Friday for 'Bike for Dad'

City Hall will suspend classes at 103 schools in 13 districts on Friday to allow parents and students to take part in the ‘’Bike for Dad’’ cycling event.

City clerk Peerapong Saichuea on Wednesday announced the closures of schools operated by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) located along the 29-km bike route that will be closed to traffic during the event being held to celebrate His Majesty the King's 88th birthday.

The class suspension will allow parents, students and teachers to participate, he said.

The school districts affected are Dusit (9 schools), Pomprap Sattruphai (4 schools), Ratchathewi (4 schools), Pathumwan (8 schools), Sampanthawong (3 schools), Klong San (8 schools), Thon Buri (17 schools), Bangkok Yai (6 schools), Bangkok Noi (15 schools), Bang Phlat (11 schools), Phra Nakhon (11 schools), Bang Rak (5 schools) and Sathon (2 schools).

Some schools under the Education Ministry's Office of the Basic Education Commission that are located near the cycling routes have adjusted class schedules for Friday.

Wat Suthiwaram School, an all-boys public school in Sathon district, has arranged a half-day schedule for students on Friday. Students will study three subjects in the morning and are allowed to leave at 10.40am, the school said on Wednesday.
