Bangkok Airways cancelled a flight to Koh Samui from Bangkok on Friday after one of the foreign passengers on board made a bomb threat.

Sirote Duangratana, the general manager of Suvarnabhumi airport, said the pilots of flight PG145 decided to abort the planned take-off at 2.20pm while the aircraft was on the runway preparing to leave for the resort island.

The safety decision came after two foreign passengers had a quarrel and one of them threatened to bomb the plane, he added.

The Airbus A319 was carrying 99 passengers, an airline executive said. All of the passengers were later put on flight PG187 leaving Suvarnabhumi at 7.30pm.

Mr Sirote said all passengers and crew members were ordered to leave the aircraft for security authorities to check the plane, and all luggage was moved back to the airport to be x-rayed.

The checks found no suspicious objects, the airport chief said, adding that Bangkok Airways decided to take legal action against one of the two passengers. The names and nationalities of the two passengers were not released.

Chula Sukmanop, the Airport Department director-general, said the offending passenger could face a fine of up to 200,000 baht and/or five years in jail for violating the Aviation Act by acting in a way harmful to passengers and the plane. The passenger could also face a charge of disorderly conduct, he added.
