Tokyo continued to be the favourite overseas destination for Thai travellers in the first half of 2015, followed closely by Osaka, according to data collected by online accommodation booking website Hotels.com.

Not only are the two most popular destinations in Japan, Thai travellers also put Sapporo and Fukuoka in their list of top 20 overseas destinations.

Sapporo has climbed the ranks, from 16th place in 2014 to 11th in 2015. Fukuoka entered the rankings for the first time, placing 15th in popularity under the latest Hotel Price Index study from the website.

Japan has been more accessible to Thai tourists, and hence more popular, since the lifting of visa restrictions in 2013.

On the other hand, Bangkok also retains its popularity with Japanese travellers, moving up three notches to be the second favourite overseas destination for Japanese in the first half of 2015.

Singapore, Hong Kong and Seoul rank as third to fifth most popular destination for Thais.
