The territorial conflict between Thailand and Cambodia will not be discussed during Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s visit to Thailand this week, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha says.
Gen Prayut said while both countries will discuss a wide range of topics such as energy and trade and investments, the border dispute is not on the agenda.
He said the territorial dispute involving a 4.6 square kilometre area surrounding the Preah Vihear temple is before the Thailand-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).
According to Gen Prayut, talks on the disputed area could go on forever but it would be more beneficial if both sides could develop it jointly for their mutual interest.
During his two-day visit, which starts on Friday, the Cambodian leader will also bring Cambodian business leaders to meet their Thai counterparts, a move welcomed by Gen Prayut.
The prime minister said the discussions will focus on cooperation issues and noted much work remains before the issues can be finalised.
