5 killed in crash while celebrating lottery win

NAKHON PHANOM - Five people celebrating a win in the underground lottery were killed and another seriously hurt when the pickup truck they were travelling in crashed into a roadside concrete barrier and overturned in Si Songkhram district on Thursday night.

The accident happened on Highway No 2032, the Si Songkhram-Tha Uthen route, said Pol Capt Peerawit Uthaisen, a duty officer at Si Songkhram police station. It was reported around 8.30pm.

The white pickup truck, carrying six people, was on the way to downtown Si Songkhram, when the driver lost control and it hurtled into a concrete barrier before hitting a roadside tree and overturning.

Five people died in the crash, including two newly-weds. The sixth person was thrown from the vehicle and badly injured, Thai media reported on Friday.

Police released the names of three of the victims:  the driver Nathee Siriwong, 33, his wife Prapairat Sutham, 24, and Pramot Kanyarit, 42. 

Thai media reported that Mr Pramot had won a windfall on the underground lottery on Thursday and invited his friends to drinks at his house. Afterwards, Mr Pramote and his five guests left the house to go to a folk music concert downtown. They crashed on the way.
