The Highways Department has issued a list of high-risk spots on dozens of highways nationwide, warning motorists travelling during the New Year holiday to take extra care.
The department said the information had been published on its website at http://bhs.doh.go.th/download2/101beware.
The list names in Thai language 101 sections of about 80 highways as high-risk areas for accidents, especially for public passenger vehicles and trucks.
Most of the danger spots have a gradient of more than 7% and several curves along a stretch of 3km or more.
A 12km section of Highway No 2331 between Lom Kao and Khao Kho districts of Phetchabun, which goes up to the mountainous attraction of Phu Thap Boek, is the longest danger stretch on the list.
Another 10km section on the same route near Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park is named the steepest road, with a gradient of 20%.
The department said 1,950 people were killed in 12,127 road accidents on highways across the country between Jan 1 and Dec 21.
Department deputy director-general Arnon Luangboriboon said on Monday the agency had completed repairs to the roadway and installed warning lights and signs at risky areas.
