Education deserves highest funding

A majority of Thais believe the biggest allocation of funds from the national budget should go towards education, followed by investments in public utilities, according to an opinion survey conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration, or Nida Poll.

The poll was carried out on Dec 22-23 on 1,250 people aged 18 and over and of various occupations and levels of education throughout the country.

Asked what should get the biggest allocation from the national budget, the majority or 56.64% pointed to education, followed by 19.12% for investments on public utilities, 8.48% on repayment of public debts, 5.92% on national defence, 8.64% on other fields such as economic and social development, health and sports, and 1.2% had no comment.

The highest number of respondents, 92.56%, said the government should take opinions from the people in making budget allocations for investments on major projects.
