NAKHON RATCHASIMA — Three women died when their car was struck by a pickup truck on a highway in Dan Khun Thot district on Monday evening.

Jiraporn Oonchawiang, 25, was driving a Toyota Vios on the Dan Khun Thot-Chai Badarn Road in Hin Dard sub-district with her sister Supaporn, 28, and friend Bussara Tiangsantia, 25, when an Isuzu D-Max pickup carrying a family of four slammed the driver's side of the vehicle.

Jiraporn veered off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch, killing herself and the passengers, Hin Dard police investigator Pol Lt Col Arun Buakong told Daily News Online. The four people in the pickup sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The pickup's driver, whose name was not released, said another vehicle tried to overtake him from behind and cut him off. He swerved to the left lane to avoid a collision and hit Ms Jiraporn's car instead.

The driver said he and his family were returning home in another province to spend their New year holidays.
