Don Mueang airport has offered free parking to customers to cope with a surge in the number of airport users during the New Year holidays.

Petch Chanchareon, director of Don Mueang airport, said on Friday all parking spaces are open free of charge to people who leave their cars at the airport to catch a flight during the holidays.

However, normal parking spaces have fallen short of demand given the high New Year passenger traffic, so the airport has decided to open an additional parking area.

Mr Petch said passengers were now able to park their vehicles at the five-storey car park building located between warehouses 2 and 3.

The parking fee for all areas is waived until Jan 5.

Buses are also provided around the clock to shuttle travellers from the building to terminals, he said.

Mr Petch said vehicle owners are required to show the parking pass which they get when they enter the parking building to retrieve their vehicles in accordance with security measures.

Don Mueang airport, which mainly serves low-cost airlines, has seen a steady increase in traffic in recent years. It recently re-opened Terminal 2 to domestic flights to ease congestion at the airport.
