A 60-year-old German man who suffered a heart attack aboard a cruise ship off Songkhla province on Thursday was transported to hospital by the navy.

The 2nd Navy Area sent the HTMS Khlong Yai to Songkhla Bay upon being alerted that the elderly German suffered the coronary attack on the Italian-flag Aida Bella cruise liner.

He was brought to shore and immediately sent to Songkhla Hospital around 2pm on Thursday.

Thanin Thamsuwan of Thoresen Shipping and Logistics Co sought help from the 2nd Navy Area's operations centre around 1am as the ship was travelling from Koh Samai to Malaysia.

Vice Adm Pornchai Pinthong, commander of the 2nd Navy Area, dispatched the Khlong Yai and a team of doctors.
