With high pressure over Thailand weakening, temperatures will rise again in the Central and East regions, but cold weather will persist in the North and upper Northeast according to the Meteorological Department's 5am statement on Wednesday.

A westerly trough from Myanmar will keep the upper regions chilly while the northeast monsoon will continue to whip up isolated thundershowers and high waves in the South and Gulf of Thailand with swells reaching as much as four metres.

All maritime vessels should proceed with caution and small boats should stay ashore for another day, said the statement.

Today's weather by region will be as follows:

In the North, rain will cover 40% of the region, mostly in Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phichit and Phetchabun.  The high should reach 27 degrees Celsius while overnight temperatures could touch 10C. On mountaintops, temps will range between 1C and 5C.

In the Northeast, rain is expected in 30% of the region, particularly Loei, Uttaradit, Nong Bua Lamphu, Nong Khai, Khon Kaen, Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom.  The expected high will be 30C and the low 13C. Mountains will see temps of 1-8C.

In the Central, Rain will be scattered across 10% of the area, mostly in the upper parts.  Minimum temperature: 17C.  Maximum temperature: 33C.

In the East, it will be cool with foggy conditions this morning. The high will touch 33C with a low of 19C.  Swells are expected to be 2-3 metres high.

In the South, rain and thundershowers will spatter 10% of the region, mostly in Ranong, Phuket and Krabi. Temperatures will range between 23-33C with waves of 1-2 metres.

The Bangkok metropolitan area will see more normal daytime temps of 33C but overnight will remain cool with a low of 17C.
