B212m for Korat to dispose of garbage

NAKHON RATCHASIMA -- The government has allocated 212.8 million baht for local administration organisations in this northeastern province to dispose of an accumulated 548,060 tonnes of garbage.

A meeting, chaired by deputy governor Surapan Disman, was held on Wednesday for the local administrations taking part in the project to layout their own garbage disposal plans, with an appropriate methods and technology for proper sanitation for their communities.

Apiwat Ponsayom, secretary of the provincial administration organisation and of the committee for the disposal of accumulated trash, said the garbage disposal will be jointly supervised by the PAO and the provincial office of natural resources and environment.

Altogether 42 local administrations have asked to come under the project, with altogether 548,060 tonnes of garbage to be disposed of.

Each of the local administrations has been told to submit its own disposal plan.  The project is expected to be completed by September.

Three local administrations in the provinces do not come under the project.  They are the Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality, tambon Sung Noen Municipality and tambon Musi Municipality.

Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality has already been allocated 400 million baht to build a plant to produce electricity from waste.  Tambon Sung Noen Municality has signed a cooperation agreement with Chulalongkorn University for a garbage disposal project, while tambon Musi Municipality has carried out its own landfill project.
