A Bangkok transgender woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with animal cruelty for allegedly throwing a Chihuahua from her fifth-storey apartment in Bangkok’s Wang Thonglang district.

Police said Yonlada Jampasri, 23, admitted to tossing her roommate's tiny dog from her room after she filed a complaint with police. The ladyboy then surrendered to authorities.

The white Chihuahua with brown stripes was found dead on the roof of a house at Soi Lat Phrao 122, said Pol Capt Paisarn Jaisua, a duty officer at Wang Thonglang police.

Meyanee Sitthisuk, 23, told police she and her four-year-old dog "Deli" had been staying with Ms Yonlada for about 10 days.

On Tuesday night, she and six friends went to a concert in Bang Kapi. Ms Yonlada followed later. After the show, she and her friends went to a restaurant, but Ms Yonlada went home.

When Ms Meyanee returned, she found her belongings in the hall and her friends noticed a dog lying on the roof next to the condo. She burst into tears when she realised it was Deli.

Ms Meyanee tried to confront Ms Yonlada, but the transgender woman would not open the door to her room.

Ms Yonlada told police that she had told her neighbour she didn't like animals and pets were not allowed in the building. But Ms Meyanee begged her to keep the dog and she relented. However, Ms Yonlada told police her patience ran out when the dog defecated in their apartment.

She said she threw Ms Meyanee's belongings out the door and flung the dog off the balcony in a fit of rage.

Pol Capt Paisarn said the suspect has been charged with violation of the Prevention of Animal Cruelty and Provision of Animals Welfare Act.

Ms Yonlada was released after a relative posted 20,000 baht as surety for bail. The suspect will be taken to the court tomorrow, he said.
