Runoff floods towns in Narathiwat, Yala

After several days of rain, runoff flooded communities in the southern border provinces of Narathiwat and Yala on Thursday.

It has rained in Narathiwat for the last three days and water streaming off the Budo-Sungai Padi mountain range flooded Ban Ba-ngo Dudong village in Cho Airong district, Ban Ba-ngo and Ban Kampong Pareh in Rangae district and Ban Tanyong in Si Sakhon district.

More than 70 families were affected and the floodwater was 40-60 centimetres deep.

In Yala province, rain had been falling since Sunday. On Thursday morning, water pouring down from the Korlor mountain range flooded Ban Kalupang in Raman district, affecting about 30 families. The flood was about one metre deep.

The weather office said on Thursday the northeastern monsoon was losing strength in the South, but it would continue raining there.
