CHON BURI - A 47-year-old woman wanted for stabbing to death her former Finnish boyfriend in Pattaya has been arrested after more than three years on the run.
Wassana Klomkamin, of Nakhon Ratchasima, was apprehended while holidaying with her foreign husband on Koh Chang island in Trat and was taken to Pattaya in Chon Buri, Pol Lt Col Sathaporn Sa-nguansuk, investigation chief at the tourism police sub-division 2, said during a media conference on Tuesday.
Ms Wassana was wanted for murder on an arrest warrant issued by Pattaya provincial court on Oct 8, 2012.
The suspect allegedly fatally stabbed Timo Juhani Tara, 65, a Finnish national, in front of a house in Soi Klom Teedin (Soi Land Department) in South Pattaya on the evening of Oct 7, 2012. The elderly man was stabbed in the left chest and died at the spot.
Ms Wassana, his girlfriend at the time, was the prime suspect. Police investigators eventually traced her and learned she was holidaying on Koh Chang with her new foreign husband. They arrested her in front of a convenience store there.
Ms Wassana admitted she was the suspect named in the arrest warrant. During questioning she claimed the victim wanted her to sleep with him and some friends. A quarrel erupted and escalated into a fight.
She claimed the Finn had tried to attack her with a knife first and she defended herself. During the melee the man was fatally stabbed. She claimed she acted in self-defence.
The woman was held in police custody at Pattaya police station for legal action.
