A group of 10 Thai sub-contractors has complained to the government that a South Korean construction company failed to pay them about 100 million baht owed for work done during the expansion of the PTT Phenol Co plant in Rayong province.

Representing the group, Prayad Khantithamborworn filed their letter at the government complaints centre, Rayong provincial hall on Tuesday.

The 56-year-old contractor from Chon Buri province said South Korean-owned Posco Engineering (Thailand) Co hired the Thai construction firms to expand the PTT Phenol Co plant in the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in tambon Huay Pong of Muang Rayong district. The contracted work included the installation of pipelines, machinery and electrical equipment.

Mr Prayad said Posco Engineering (Thailand) had failed to pay about 100 million baht owed to the Thai construction firms since July last year. The sub-contractors were in trouble because they employed many workers. He alleged that the Thai firms had also received threats.

He hoped that officials at the complaints centre in Rayong would arrange for a quick investigation.
