One of the guarantors stuck with the bill for runaway dentist Dolrudee Jumlongras' unpaid 30 million baht student loan said on Wednesday she had sent a new email from the United States promising yet again to repay the money.

Dentist Padet Poolwithayakit posted the details on his Facebook account.

He said Ms Dolrudee had sent an email to another guarantor insisting that she had every intention to  repay them, as she had repeatedly promised previously.

The Facebook post followed Mahidol University's decision to seek a court order declaring Ms Dolrudee, a former dentistry lecturer of the university, bankrupt in an effort to reclaim from her the cost of the 1993 state scholarship and fines, a total of 30 million baht.

Mr Padet recently complained online that he and three other guarantors must each pay 2 million baht to the university because Ms Dolrudee had failed to return to Thailand to teach at the university as required under the 10-million-baht scholarship she was awarded for master's and doctoral studies at Harvard University in the Unites States. If she did not return she was liable to repay the debt. Instead her guarantors are stuck with the bill.

Mr Padet said Ms Dolrudee sent this email: "As I mentioned to you, P'Pui, P'Padet and Aj Araya several times that I will pay all of you the loan you got plus interest. I'm still looking for a way to find the money to pay you and perhaps, it may be better that you hear it directly from me so that you can be reassured that I will do it as I promise?"

The message also said, "I just talked to P'Pui and she's aware of my intention and sincerity. Please give me the best number and time for me to call you."

The Office of the Higher Education Commission said earlier the scholarship had been awarded to Ms Dolrudee, whose nickname is Porsche, in 1993 in response to a government initiative to produce more graduates in 16 fields deemed necessary for Thailand's scientific, technological, economic and industrial development.

Harvard University's School of Dental Medicine said that Ms Dolrudee completed her PhD there in 2003. She is now employed as a senior tutor organising and managing clinical treatment teams for predoctoral students at the university. It is reported she has US citizenship and is married.
