SAMUT PRAKAN - Fire gutted a car spare parts warehouse at a factory in Bang Pu Industrial Estate late Thursday night, causing damage put at several million baht. No casualties were reported.

The blaze at the Vuteq Asia Co plant inside the industrial estate in tambon Phreaksa of Muang district was reported about 11.30pm, said Pol Lt Col Siwa Rimfai,  a duty officer at Bang Pu police station.

Fire trucks and crews rushed to the scene found flames engulfing plastic granules machines at the warehouse, which stores raw materials for auto parts. Four loud bangs were heard. Fire fighters took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Nobody was injured in the fire, but machinery and stored vehicle spare parts were severely damaged.

Factory manager Thanaphat Ruamjai, 31, said there were no workers inside the warehouse at the time. He had asked the nightshift workers in another building to help transfer goods from the warehouse and to help fight the  blaze when it first started. However, the flames spread quickly and there were several explosions, so he called the police.

The fire caused several million baht in damage to the machinery, the manager said. Damage to the factory was still being estimated.

Police believed an electrical short circuit might be the cause of the blaze. They were investigating.
