PATHUM THANI – A burglary suspect wanted for breaking into a pickup truck in Muang district wasn’t hard for police to find: He was sleeping in the cab.

Somnuek Riabhuad, 37 of Kamphaeng Phet, was discovered around 6.30am Wednesday snoozing with a thin blanket over him behind the driver's seat of a Mitsubhishi Triton parked in front of a building on Thetsamphan Road in tambon Bang Prok, said Pol Lt Col Banchong Noowa, a duty officer at Muang police station.

Owner Natthawut Kultrakarn, 18, a first-year student at Bangkok University, and his neighbours met police when they arrived. The left window of the pickup was shattered and there were traces the cab had been ransacked, but nothing was missing, the owner said.

Mr Somnuek gave conflicting explanations when being questioned. He told police he worked at a construction site in this central province. He got cold and decided to break into the parked truck to sleep, police said.

He was held in police custody for further interrogation and legal action on charges of damaging the property of the vehicle owner.
