Fans still awaiting refunds for cancelled November show

Bangkok K-pop fans have accused the local organiser of SGC Super Live in Bangkok of dragging its feet in paying promised refunds for tickets after the show was cancelled last year.

At least 10 complaints were lodged with the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) on Wednesday against the organiser of the event, JL Starnet Trade Co, for repeatedly postponing payment of refunds following the cancellation of SGC Super Live in Bangkok two months ago.

SGC Super Live in Bangkok, scheduled for Nov 28 last year, was cancelled, and ticket holders are still waiting for their promised refunds

Thanyaporn Suebtrakul, one of the complainants, said the firm had presold tickets for the SGC Super Live concert  online. The fashion and concert show, featuring many South Korean singers, was scheduled for Nov 28 last year. Tickets were priced from 900 to 6,000 baht.

More than 830 people had purchased tickets online worth some 1.1 million baht, said Ms Thanyaporn.

However, JL Starnet then announced the concert had been cancelled and offered to refund all ticket holders.

Ms Thanyaporn complained the firm had kept postponing the payments. Her group had sent a letter asking for the promised refund on three occasions, but no refunds had been paid. They had later filed a complaint with Thong Lor police station, accusing JL Starnet of fraud.

The firm announced it would return the money in five installments, but her group feared it would not keep its promise, she said.

She urged the TSCD to ask the company to send  representatives to talks with her group, and to sign an agreement as evidence for the return of the money. The complainants submitted details of money transfers made for ticket purchases and conversations they had with the firm as evidence.

On its Facebook page, JL Starnet Trade Co posted a message on Feb 2 explaining the delays in making refunds to ticket holders,

The firm said it had announced it would pay the refunds in January after SGC Super Live in Bangkok was  cancelled. However, money from the ticket sales had already been handed over as a down payment for production of the show.

JL Starnet Trade Co said the South Korean partner had cancelled the event without giving prior notice. This had caused the  problem.

The company had decided to obtain a loan to refund all ticket holders. It would  pay the refunds in five instalments - Feb 15, Feb 28, March 15, March 31 and April 18.

The organiser insisted it had no intention to cheat or avoid responsibility.
