LOEI — One person was killed and 13 others injured when an interprovincial passenger bus rear-ended a sugarcane truck parked along a road in Phu Kradung district of this northeastern province in the early hours of Saturday.

The crash occurred at kilometre maker 145 on Maliwan-Loei Road in tambon Huay Som, said Pol Lt Col Chukiart Pubanmor, a duty officer at Phu Kradung police station, who was reported around 2am on Saturday.

The air-conditioned passenger bus, carrying 30 passengers, rammed into the sugarcane truck parked along the road without giving any sign, Thai media reported on Saturday.

The impact of the crash killed a 21-year-old man identified as Thanapol Korsa, helper of the bus driver, and hurt 13 others, including 12 passengers and bus driver Sirikiart Khengraeng, 42, said police.

Rescue workers retrieved the injured from the wreckage of the bus and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
