TAK — A 60-year-old man stabbed his wife to death in a fit of jealousy before turning the knife on himself, but failed in his suicide attempt at their house in Ramat district of this northern province in the early hours of Saturday.

Khamsao Thatui sustained severe knife wounds to his throat and chest and was found hugging the blood-soaked body of his wife Nongkharn, 56, who sustained 12 stab wounds on her body and died at their house in tambon Mae Jarao, said Pol Lt Col Likhitpong Srinarang, deputy investigation chief at Mae Ramat police station.

Police were reported around 3am on Saturday. Mr Khamsao was sent to Mae Ramat Hospital’s intensive care unit.

A  police investigation found that the couple, who were field crop farmers and wild product collectors, had recently had frequent quarrels as the husband felt jealous after learning that another man was flirting with his wife.

Before the tragedy, the couple had a heated quarrel before the angry husband grabbed a farm knife and stabbed his wife repeatedly. Mr Khamsao then used the same knife to slash his throat and stab his chest in a bid to commit suicide.

Neighbours heard the screams from the house and rushed to see what was happening before alerting police.
