Man loses leg, 2 others hurt in Korat crash

NAKHON RATCHASIMA -- An elderly man lost a leg and two others were injured when a big motorcycle driven by a teenager hit a pedestrian and flipped a car in Muang district on Thursday morning.

According to Pol Capt Santi Lertchanthuek of Pho Klang police station, the accident occurred at about 7.55am at kilometre marker 142 on the outbound side of Mitrapap Highway when a Kawasaki big bike driven by Kittiyos Aroonsivakul, 17, a Mathayom 5 student at a school in Muang district, hit Samphan Arpornphan, 67, who was crossing the road.

Mr Samphan was hit violently by the speeding motorcycle and the his leg was severed in the incident. The bike slid and hit the rear of a Mitsubishi Mirage, causing the car to overturn.

Mr Kittiyos, the teen motorcyclist, sustained numerous wounds. The car's driver, Nipawan Boonthamcharoen, 40, director of the financial department of a tambon administration organisation, also was hurt.

Police said that accidents frequently took place at this spot, where there is an overhead pedestrian bridge but it is rarely used.
