PATHUM THANI - A long section of Leab Khlong 13 Road in Thanyaburi district subsided suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, creating a hole about four metres deep and 120 metres long.

Authorities ordered the indefinite closure of the collapsed eastern lane of the Thanyaburi-Lam Luk Ka Road following alongside Khlong 13 canal in tambon Bung Nam Rak of Thanyaburi district of this central province.

Thitinan Charoen-ard, chief administrator of Sananlak municipality, said the sudden collapse of the road was reported about 1.30pm. She led officials to inspect the route. Small cracks were found at several spots along the road.

Ms Thitinan said some cracks were also found last week, after the water level at the canal had fallen over about two weeks.

Tuesday's subsidence happened about 500 metres from a section which collapsed last year, causing a truck carrying machinery to overturn, she said.

A road gang and earthmoving machinery had been sent to the area to repair the collapsed section of the road, she said.

Although the caved in section was closed to traffic, motorists could still use the western side of Leab Khlong 13 Road heading to Lam Luk Ka and Thanyaburi districts, said Ms Thitinan.
