Police will lay an additional charge of obstructing an officer in the execution of his duty against the driver of the Mercedes-Benz that crashed into a sedan in Bang Pa-In district of Ayutthaya on Sunday, killing two university graduates.

Deputy national police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen announced this after visiting Bang Pa-In hospital and questioning all staff involved in treating the driver, Janepob Veeraporn, on Sunday.

All confirmed that the man had refused to give a blood sample for testing for alcohol and drugs.

He had insisted he would allow only Samitivej Hospital to conduct the test, as he was about to be transferred there for treatment in Bangkok of his injury.

Pol Gen Pongsapat said Mr Janepob was facing charges that carried a maximum penalty of more than three years in prison.

Mr Janepob was therefore required by law to obey the police order for a blood sample.

Mr Janepob, 37, the son of a wealthy importer of luxury cars, on Wednesday admitted to police that his reckless driving had killed the two students.
