Several passengers fainted when the Airport Rail Link train service was disrupted on Monday morning by a power failure at Ramkhamhaeng station that brought a train to a halt between Ramkhamhaeng and Hua Mark stations, reports said.

The reports said the power dropped out about 8.15am, leaving the doors locked and stranding passengers on the train, which was inbound to Phayathai, without airconditioning on a hot morning for about an hour.

According to commuters' posts on Jor Sor 100 radio station's Facebook page, several passengers passed out.

FM91 traffic radio website reported that a total of six passengers fainted.

At 9.24am, it was reported on Jor Sor 100's Facebook page that doors had been opened and people had begun to get off the train after being stuck inside for an hour.

Passengers who fainted were the first to be taken off by a rescue train. They were treated by medical teams. Some passengers walked along the track to the nearest train station.

The passengers reportedly complained they had not been told what had happened or why they were stranded.

However, announcements were made at Ramkhamhaeng station that the power problem was being repaired.

Airport Rail Link acting manager Gen Daran Yuthawongsuk said the problem was caused by a drop in the power voltage at Ramkhamhaeng station.

He confirmed an electric train had been dispatched to haul the train stalled between Ramkhamhaeng and Hua Mark stations away from the trouble spot.

The airport train service was reported to have resumed about 10.15am, after repairs were completed.
