SONGKHLA -- Twenty-seven students from Yala province were slightly injured when a chartered bus taking them on a study tour overturned in Hat Yai district early on Wednesday.

Police said the bus was carrying  about 50 students, from 1st to 9th grades, and teachers of Payawithaya School in Yala's Krong Pinang district.

It was heading for Phatthalung and Trang provinces under a study tour programme when it skidded off the out-bound Asian Highway before the airport intersection in tambon Khuan Lang of Hat Yai district.

The bus rammed into a roadside tree and overturned, finishing up on its side.

Rescuers from several charity foundations took 27 students who sustained bruises from the impact away from the accident scene for treatment - 10 to Hat Yat Hospital and 17 to Songklanakarin Hospital.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
