The woman the renowned Maepranom chili paste was named after has complained to the prime minister that her daughter has cheated her out of the business and expelled from the family home.

"Mae" Pranom Daengsupha, the co-founder of Phiboonchai Maepranom Thai Chili Paste, made the accusation in a filing to the public complaints centre near Government House in Bangkok on Friday.

The company has produced chili paste since 1959.

Mrs Pranom asked for justice, saying she had trusted her eldest daughter, Siriporn Daengsupha, to care for the business on behalf for the family for a long time.

She alleged, however, that in 2015 the daughter took over ownership of the family business and land with the use of a falsified power of attorney from her late husband Sirichai Daengsupha, who died in 2013. She said Ms Siriporn transferred the family’s assets and business to herself.

Mrs Pranom alleged her eldest daughter and her husband, Suchart Phasaprathet, had taken over the business by changing the names of the listed shareholders, removing the names of other members of the family and replacing them with their own names.

The couple had also expelled her from the family home.

Mrs Pranom said she had filed a court case in an attempt to get back the assets and the business, but the couple had wielded their influence to block the move.

“I realise that my case is about a family business. But if my daughter and her husband can so easily take over the family business it is damaging to society, both ethically and morally," she said. "Therefore, I plea for  justice for me and my family.”
