The US embassy in Bangkok got into the April Fool’s Day spirit bright and early Friday, advertising an employment opening for a “Feline Welfare Officer”.

The fake advert, posted to the embassy's Facebook page, seeks someone to care for the Wireless Road facility's roaming cats. The employee would report to the embassy's supposed "Chief Feline Officer".

Job responsibilities would include feeding the cats twice daily, managing regular visits to a veterinarian - but only one certified by the US government - and creating cat videos aimed humorous enough to go viral.

To land the job, one would need to be a high school graduate, be an "aggressive" commentator on feline-centric Facebook pages, and identify themselves as a "cat servant".

Interested candidates must also supplies a portfolio of selfies taken with cats.

No word on salary for the hair-raising position.

An embassy official later confirmed it was an April Fool's Day prank.
