South Korean online gambling ring busted

Eleven members of an online gambling gang, 10 South Korean nationals and one Chinese, were caught during a police raid on two locations in Chachoengsao on Friday.

The 10 men and one woman, aged 20-32, were apprehended at two rented houses in tambon Bang Samak of Bang Pakong district, Pol Maj Gen Theerapol Jindaluang, chief of Chachoengsao police, told a media briefing at Provincial Police Region 2 in Chon Buri.

The gang had used the two houses as online gambling centres to receive football bets from punters,  most of them in South Korea, said Pol Maj Gen Theerapol.

Police seized 11 notebook computers, 32 desktop PCs, an account book detailing income and expenses, 19 one-time-password (OTP) devices for use with online transactions, one internet router, a bank account passbook and 12 other electronic devices.

The 11 suspects have been charged with illegally taking online football bets.
