Storm warnings continue for many provinces

The Meteorological Department has warned of more summer storms to come in greater Bangkok and many provinces in the Northeast, the East and the lower Central Plain.

While storms were receding in upper Thailand, they were expected to continue in the other areas -  Bangkok and surrounding provinces as well as Buri Ram, Chachoengsao, Chaiyaphum, Chanthaburi, Chon Buri, Kalasin, Kanchanaburi, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Roi Et, Sa Kaeo, Si Sa Ket, Suphan Buri, Surin, Trat and Ubon Ratchathani provinces, the department said on Thursday.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said seasonal storms caused damage yesterday and overnight to more than 200 houses in eight northeastern provinces --  Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Nakhon Phanom, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani.

It warned more storms were expected, including hailstorms, in the Northeast, the East and the Central Plain.

A storm struck Muang district of Buri Ram on Wednesday night, damaging houses, shops, hotels, public property and caused power cuts in some areas. Heavy rain accompanied by swirling winds, thunder and lightning pounded Muang district for about three hours, with hail reported in some areas.

An employee of Buri Ram Hospital was hit by a thunderbolt while riding his motorcycle in the storm in tambon Isan of Muang district. He was admitted to an intensive care unit.
