CHON BURI — Two transgender sex workers have been arrested for assaulting a German tourist and stealing cash from him after he refused to buy sex from them on Jomtien beach in Pattaya.

Phumin "Nane’’ Saranan, 20, and Nopporn “Por” Jitsom, 21, face charges of theft and physical assault, said Pol Maj Gen Amporn Buarubporn, chief of Chon Buri police, during a media briefing on Saturday.

The arrest came after Pattaya Memorial Hospital alerted police that Lutz Möller, a German national, had been physically assaulted at the entrance of Soi 5 on Jomtien Beach Road late Friday night.

According to the investigation, Mr Möller was walking along the road when the two transgenders approached him. After he repeatedly declined their offers to have sex, the pair grew angry. One of them then used a brick to hit him on the head and face and stole 4,000 baht in cash before the pair fled on a motorcycle.

Police subsequently arrested the attackers at a rented house in Pattaya. Officers said the pair confessed to the charges after the tourist identified them, and they are being held in police custody for legal action.
