An elderly man is missing and his wife was injured when a tourist boat struck their small craft on the reservoir of the Ratchaprapha dam in Surat Thani province on Saturday.

Prajit Saisema, 69, and his wife were traveling in a small boat towing 400 bamboo logs to supply raft operators on the reservoir. Their craft was struck forcefully by another boat carrying eight tourists at a bend in the shore near the Jan cave at around 9am.

Mr Prajit fell into the water of the 60-metre-deep reservoir while his 67-year-old wife Prajob Takham was slightly injured. The couple are natives of Takua Pa district in Phangnga.

The eight tourists who were heading for the Pakarang cave were not injured. While the search for Mr Prajit continues, police are interrogating the tour boat driver to find the cause of the accident.
