CHON BURI -- A Chinese tourist died Monday after his jet ski collided with a speedboat shortly after it left Koh Larn for Pattaya.

The Sea Hawks 430 boat driven by a man known only as Mu hit the jet ski as he was taking tourists from Ta Waen beach on the Bang Lamung district resort island back to the mainland, Danupol Kaewreuanma, an assistant guide, told Pol Col Sukthat Pumpanmuang, the Pattaya police chief.

The assistant guide said high waves off Koh Larn made it impossible for the speedboat driver to see the oncoming watercraft rented and driven by Qi Ding. A jet ski attendant, identified as Aphisal Feaungkorn, was riding pillion.

The impact vaulted both men into the sea. They were rescued and  sent to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where Qi later died.

Mr Aphisal was transferred to Chon Buri Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Pol Col Sukthat said.
