Consumer sentiment at 7-month low in April - survey

Thai consumer confidence fell for the fourth straight month in April, a university survey showed on Tuesday, due to concern over domestic and global economic growth prospects, drought and low commodity prices.

The index stood at 72.7 points, down from 73.5 in March, the lowest in seven months since October 2015, according to Thanavath Pholvichai, vice-president for research of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce.

The survey revealed that consumers felt the Thai economy had recovered slowly and their income had not increased. 

The Finance Ministry last week cut its 2016 economic growth forecast to 3.3% from 3.7%. 

Southeast Asia's second-largest economy has struggled to expand since the army seized power in May 2014 to end street protests. The junta has launched stimulus measures to spur domestic spending and sought to accelerate infrastructure projects.

Overall Consumer Confidence Index, which reflects views on the economy, job opportunities and future income. The survey is usually done in the last week of the month.
