The Metropolitan Police Bureau has produced stickers to warn parents and school van drivers to check for children locked in hot vehicles following the death of a three-year-old kindergarten girl in Samut Prakan on Wednesday.

The stickers will be distributed to private operators of school vans and to schools which provide transport for young students in Bangkok and nearby provinces on Monday when schools reopen.

The stickers are made into four different versions with two messages: “Don’t leave me in the car” and “Don’t forget your child in your car”.

Acting MPB chief Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathaworn, who ordered the printing of the stickers, said the measure is part of joint efforts with the Ministry of Education to encourage more caution and prevent young children from being inadvertently left in school vehicles by drivers or teachers.

On Wednesday, Palimprapa “Nong Ing” Pajjaiyo died in a charted school van after the driver and his assistant forgot her when they stopped at a housing estate in Samut Prakan. She was in the van alone for seven hours.

Nong Ing’s cremation ceremony took place on Sunday at 5pm at Wat Khlong Kao in Muang Samut Prakan district with her family members and teachers in mourning. Local media reported that her grieving mother Thanatcha Pajjaiyo fainted when an undertaker opened Nong Ing’s coffin to let her see her daughter one last time.
