Disciples at Wat Dhammakaya have demanded the Department of Special Investigation properly explain why an arrest warrant has been issued for the temple's abbot, Phra Dhammajayo, claiming he is being unjustly treated.

Speaking on behalf of the disciples, Ong-art Thamnitha said at a media conference on Wednesday said all Dhammakaya followers was saddened that the DSI had taken this action even though Phra Dhammajayo has been sick.

The Criminal Court on Tuesday approved the DSI's application for a warrant to arrest Phra Dhammajayo for alleged involvement in laundering money and receiving stolen property worth 1.2 billion baht in connection with the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative embezzlement case.

Mr Ong-art said the disciples wanted the DSI to explain why the medical records issued by doctors at Saha Clinic Ranavej, a clinic located inside Wat Dhammakaya in Nonthaburi, were not acceptable

In addition to the documents from Saha Clinic Ratanavaj, there were also medical records issued by state-run Phanurangsi Military Camp Hospital in Ratchaburi province confirming the monk's illness.

"I would also like to speak on behalf of doctors at the clinic. Their reputation has been damaged.  The DSI should explain to society why it has treated Phra Dhammajayo in this manner," he added.
