Japanese man arrested for child sexual abuse

CHIANG MAI -- A Japanese man was arrested when Department of Special Investigation officers raided his room at a guesthouse in downtown Chiang Mai city early on Wednesday morning.

Armed with a warrant issued by the Chiang Mai Court, DSI officers made a surprise raid on room 103 of the guesthouse on Suriyawong road in tambon Haiya. 

The entered the room and found the Japanese man.

The man, identified as Teruaki Matsubara, 49, was arrested and charged with having sex with a child under 13 years and performing obscene acts with a child under 15 years of age.

A police officer from Muang Chiang Mai police station said the raid was carried out after the DSI was informed by the Japanese office of Interpol that the man had lured young boys for sexual abuse and taken videos and photos of them. The videos and photos were then posted online for viewing by people in Japan's gay society.
