10 hurt when furnace explodes in Rayong

RAYONG -- 10 workers were hurt, seven seriously, when a furnace at a cast iron plant exploded in Pluak Daeng district on Thursday morning.

The explosion occurred at Applied Metal Precision Technology Co in the Amata City industrial estate in tambon Map Yang Porn, said police. The incident was reported around 11am today.

Police and rescue workers rushed to the scene and found ten workers sustained burns. Two of them were seriously hurt. They were sent to Pluak Daeng Hospital, Thai media reported.

The INN news agency said seven of the ten sustained serious burns to between 50% and 60% of their bodies.

Witnesses told police that the furnace exploded when workers were pouring molten iron into it.  Authorities were investigating.
