Top Flight Basketball Academy, Varsity League and BJBL are helping to set the stage for a basketball renaissance in Thailand

Back in the 70s, 80s and early-90s, basketball was huge in Thailand. Then football got the upper hand and basketball was relegated to a second tier sport.

Recently though, the game has started to make a comeback. The NBA staged its first event ever in the kingdom in 2011 and Thailand will have two different teams competing in the Asian Basketball League (ABL) for the 2012 season.

Ultimately though, if the game is to regain the mantle it enjoyed during the 1980s, a passion for the sport must be instilled in players at the elementary and high school levels.
