Medical professionals have demanded the National Health Security Office distribute billions of baht in leftover budget funds to ease financial constraints on healthcare providers nationwide.
An accumulated leftover budget of 22.2 billion baht under the NHSO, which oversees the healthcare system for 48 million people, had not yet been distributed to state hospitals when the 2011 fiscal year ended last September, says a report by a health insurance group at the Public Health Ministry.
State hospitals under the supervision of the ministry's permanent secretary's office faced financial shortages of up to 4.692 billion baht at the end of the last fiscal year while the health purchasing agency had 4.2 billion baht left over, Bancha Kakong, a health insurance researcher from the group, told the recent Thailand Health Care summit.
