Keep funds independent, say experts

International experts have advised Thailand to solve discrepancies in its three health-care schemes rather than attempt to merge the funds into a single national system.

The suggestion was based on an independent assessment of the first decade of the Universal Healthcare Scheme (UHS) revealed yesterday at the week-long Prince Mahidol Awards Conference.

The study conducted by health economists and researchers from Brazil, Britain, India, Malaysia, Switzerland, Thailand and the US concluded that Thailand should seek ways to align key issues in a bid to allow the schemes to run effectively for their target patients.
