Heavy drinking does not have any health benefits. Apart from a wide range of negative health consequences, including an increased risk for many chronic diseases (diabetes, cirrhosis of the liver, high blood pressure and strokes), many types of cancer (mouth, larynx, and oesophageal cancers, breast cancer and cancers of the liver, gastrointestinal tract and colon), it can also lead to outbursts of violence, physical injuries, etc. Avoiding alcohol can only partially reverse these effects.
However, many research studies have demonstrated that "moderate" drinking may have some health benefits.
