Year after year, TV personality Pimonwan Hoonthongkam has a very hard time trying to convince her mother to get an influenza vaccination. Unfortunately, her efforts are fruitless.
"My mother becomes so unyielding when it comes to influenza vaccinations," said 41-year-old Pimonwan. "She reacts this way mainly because she is aware of the vaccine's side effects _ especially fever and muscle soreness, which last for a few days after the shot."
Influenza, be it a seasonal or pandemic, is no stranger to the Thai population. According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Health's Department of Disease Control, an estimated 10 million Thais fall prey to influenza each year.
