Seven of Bangkok's thousands of asylum seekers, caught in a lengthy legal limbo as their cases are heard, captured aspects of their lives with cameras

They come from Iran and Sri Lanka, Pakistan and China, central Africa, Cambodia and elsewhere around the world, fleeing persecution for their beliefs or serious concerns about their safety and that of their families.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS: ‘I took this picture so people could see that there is no hope left in my eyes. After waiting for the UNHCR to decide my case, I have no idea what will happen to me but I have lost hope,’ Nikou, Iran.
Like they often were in their home countries, in Bangkok they find themselves voiceless and defenceless.
