'Evil man from Krabi' victim speaks out

The maker of one of the most unusual complaints against the Kingdom's judiciary, and his teenage daughter, the woman at the heart of a contentious rape case, speak to 'Spectrum' on the music video's resulting storms of support and protest

'Im trying to pick up my life again, but until justice is served I'm finding it difficult," said the victim of a alleged rape in July, in Ao Nang, Krabi province last week.

"My daughter walked into a trap, made by a clever guy she trusted when he offered to bring her home on his scooter," her father explained.

It is a case that has reverberated around the Kingdom and the world. When the father became dismayed and angry at the suspect's belated arrest and subsequent "easy" release on bail, he created a protest video in black and white, set to a ska beat, in which he sings about bringing justice to the rapist, and he uploaded the four-minute clip to YouTube.

    Here are some Thai fundamentals.

1/ Thailand embraces many outmoded sexist ideas, long gone in the enlightened West. Thais still cling to the antiquated notion that rape is a sex crime (wrong) and that if it happens, the woman probably brought on herself.
As an example, every new school year Thai universities post notices to female students to dress modestly in order to avoid provoking the 'natural, uncontrolled lust' of male students, and being raped.
2/ Thais NEVER appologize. Oh sure, they might say "sorry". But, that only means they're sorry they got caught. They don't understand right from wrong beyond a superficial level.

ALL of us should support the father in his fight, and all of us should criticize the childish, clumsy and unprofessional response, via video ,from Krabi police...However, the big wrong in this is the easy freeing on bail for so many dangerous murderers and rapists by so many judges. The judges should THINK.....what if this happened to a member of MY family....After finding the answer they should reconsider seriously if they are helping society or justice by these practices.....

The Thai Government should consider employing Max Clifford a public relations guru as they seem to be so busy linning there own pockets they are incapable of dealing these type of situations. There would be big uproar if some Elite Thai daughter were raped in Europe.

Another drunk foreigner who had a fight with her boyfriend, stormed away from him and now claims to be a victim. Maybe it happened like she claims, maybe it didn't. Personally I feel safer living in a Country in which every woman who screams the "R" word is not automatically believed. The accused is entitled to a trial before being humiliated and jailed, and Thailand certainly has a better legal system than America displayed with that circus involving Strauss-Kahn last year.

II was told by my female Thai neighbour that the attacks against tourists are always covered up, not to 'save face', but to mitigate against loss of tourist dollars. And this was fifteen years ago. nothing's changed and I suspect, given the disgusting comments from the Thai officials, nothing ever will. 'Mai pen lai, give it a few weeks and it'll all blow over ...'

    Please keep on this one.

In order to save face there is only one solution. To have a trial and then punish the offender accordingly. By sweeping this under the rug the police and authorities have no idea how much damage they are doing! The name of everyone is shamed not just the rapist. As for the policeman response saying it wasnt rape because they had eaten together, he should be publically humiliated for saying such a stupid thing. If someone had dinner with his wife and then raped her I wonder if he would say the same. It may be the only ones who can provide justice will be in the criminal underworld

This problem will not go away. nor will it until justice is seen to be done. The perception of the Thai police and how they reacted is quite disqusting. Furthermore is also defines that clearly there is one law for Thai citizens and one for foreigners. In the west this is not acceptable, as justice must serve all regardless of race colour or creed. The fact that the justice systems is inadequate in addressing this problem further adds to the frustration of most I'm sure. Thailand must not bury it's head in the sand and think this problem will just go away it will not !

I just want to point out that if the victim was Thai the case would have been treated in the same way with the difference that no one would have found out about it!
Not only do Thai authorities not care about tourists, but they don't care about human being in general!
