B400m earmarked to mend nation's image

The government has been advised to set aside 400 million baht to restore the country's image tainted by political troubles and last year's airport seizures by protesters. The special budget was recommended by Sathaporn Kavitanont, head of the prime minister's economic advisory team, and forwarded to the cabinet meeting yesterday.

Mr Sathaporn also recommended the Secretariat of the Prime Minister appoint a committee to oversee the restoration of the Kingdom's image and the rebuilding of international confidence in the Thai economy.

The panel should work to promote the country's image through such global channels as CNN and CNBC. Activities should include a regional economic meeting and a forum of senior executives of the world's leading companies.

PM's Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya and former Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin, now an adviser to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, would be responsible for working out details, a source said.

This is another fool-prove evidence that this inexperience government runs the country unconsciously. This moment in time, regardless of the actual country’s cash flow (presumably there are some real available cash without public knowledge), the leader needs to show the integrity of taking the country through the crisis. One of the no-nonsense ways is to spend cautiously and tell your people how wise they are. They should be the role model for the rest of us. The only evidence left regards to this issue is that they are just a truly immature and ill-advised group of people that happen to run the country. I’d never worried too much and easily bother by anything, but this time, I see a slim chance that our country might have its due to collapse. My company is still doing great even during this moment, and I want a wise country to have my company named on and to raise the children. Please carefully listen; you’ll hear who should bring us forward—definitely not a group of dim spoils children of course.
