The government will import 600,000 doses of A(H1N1) influenza vaccine in September or October and all patients in need will have access to it, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Thursday.

Health officials would be innoculated first as they were at greatest risk of catching the virus, he said.

There would be enough vaccine to care for all who need it.

He reiterated there wasno need to panic because patients recovered if they received the right treatment. People with a chronic disease were the most vulnerable.

The Public Health Ministry reported 83 new cases of influenza A on Thursday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 1,556.

Twenty-eight patients remained in hospitals. Five people have succumbed to virus-related symptoms.

On Wednesday two people died, including a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Ubon Ratchathani who attended a Korean boy-band concert in Bangkok last weekend. She was afflicted with thessalemia, a rare hereditary blood disorder, according to reports

Yes that is right, it is about .9 of 1% of the population.

I imagine most will be distributed in the Bangkok area....the rest for the Isan and southern "poor uneducated who should not have had their votes counted anyway..."

    yes i am being sarcastic.

I applauded and saluted PM.Abhisit spent money to save the life of Thai people by buying more flu vaccine.

Preventive medicine is the best medicine to flight against the diseases and save life.

I understand vaccine is for prevention, not cure. The amount being ordered is less than 1% of total population; it will be gone in no time! What limit the amount to be imported? Money or availability? Understand from earlier report that WHO has licensed Thailand to produce the vaccine, where are they?

I hope the Public health ministry can do better job than this!
