Govt told: Scrub Preah Vihear accord

About 30 members of a network of people following up the Preah Vihear dispute on Monday morning rallied in front of Government House and called on the government to withdraw from the joint Thai-Cambodian statement of June 18 last year which supports Cambodia's unilateral listing of the temple as a world heritage site.

The joint statement was signed by then foreign minister Noppadon Pattama without prior consent of parliament.

The group, led by ML Walwipa Jaroonroj, an academic at the Institute of Thai Studies at Thammasat University, said the Democrat-led government should revoke the joint statement and formally inform the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) and the world community.

Thailand should also step up its opposition to Cambodia's unilateral registration of Preah Vihear as a world heritage site, otherwise it could lose its sovereignty over the 4.6 square kilometre border area under dispute and a 1.5 million rai of forest adjacent to Cambodia, said the group.

All the scientists and the researchers around the world know Khmer Temples and Khmer land stretch from south Vietnam to Thailand. Every Khmer temples have Khmer writing on them. Thai should learn about your own history. Thai people use to dress like Samarai. When Thai invaded Cambodia in 14th century, they took over Cambodian culture, writing, etc. You got help from Khmer Surin to win victory over Cambodia in 14th century.

Thai can't claim Khmer Temples as their because we have Khmer writing on every Khmer Temple. We event have Khmer Ancient temples in Surin, Bangkok, and South Vietnam. Even Thai tried to put cement to cover Khmer writing on every time.

You can't claim somethings that is not your. When International science researchers dig through those temples, they will write into history as temples that built by Khmer people. Therefore, Thai have no right to claim Khmer temples as your.

Why is it that a group of well educated scholars insist that thailand revoke it's signed document? Its like buying furniture with a check, and after aquiring it, you go back to the store and say "give me my check back".
This is rediculous. As a Thai myself, i have to say i am ashamed, especially with the current government in place.

I have no ideas but to say,as a Cambodian, to have such a headache neighbor!!! They do not share mutual respect and peace.

We will no longer need the respect we expect. If that s the case, we, as a nation, will become stronger.

Let s dream and try to be the second singapore one day and never ask anything from our shameless neighbor.
