Suthep to propose use of security law

The Internal Security Act might be invoked to ensure peace and order during the mass anti-government rally by the red-shirts planned for Nov 28 to Dec 2, Deputy Prime Minister for security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban said on Friday.

“The government will closely monitor the situation. I will propose the use of the security law to the cabinet meeting for consideration next Tuesday,” Mr Suthep said.

He said that while it was not unlawful for the red-shirts to assemble to pressure the government to call a general election, if the House were to be dissolved the procedure must be constitutional.

It was clear that the red-shirts have joined forces with the main opposition Puea Thai Party and fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to topple the government, he said.

The move was aimed at paving the way for Thaksin to return to power and to regain his frozen 76 billion baht in assets, he said.

Regarding the mother of detained Thai engineer, Sivarak Chutiphong, had asked Thaksin to help get the release of her son, Mr Suthep said the mother was just concerned on Mr Sivarak’s safety.

He insisted that the government has provided all needed assistances for the Thai engineer.

I'm not sure which part of this apparently newsworthy tidbit is less of a surprise: that the ISA will be invoked, again, or; that Suthep opened his mouth and yet another gem of foolishness spurted out.

My suggestion is to dissolve the House and let Abhisit appoint himself in charge of a caretaker government. That will give everyone a few months to cut the reconciliation deal while the media is in election coverage frenzy mode.

When either Suthep or Kasit open thier mouth, it's instant provocation.
Poster #1 hit the nail on the head. If Thailand had a responsible press corp, Suthep would have been challenged on his statement. A resaonable question like: Isn't that how the government came to be? I won't hold my breath waiting for such a question though.

The UDD is indicating that they plan to have multiple rallies and not indicating locations within BKK. That would present a challenge to the police and military.

A sure way to incite violent and a quicker way to topple the illegitimate government.

May as well, no need in changing the double standard of this government in mid stride.

But... But.. But then.. didn't the yellow-shirts join force with the main opposition Democrat Party and the former Junta to topple the government?

That's Karma and there is no getting around that. You can't hide a dead elephant under a lotus leaf.

My Hat's off to you Mr Suthep! Do you know what your mouth is saying.? The less you speak the better it will be for your party.

"He pointed out that it is not lawful for the red-shirts to pressure the government to dissolve parliament because if the House is to be dissolved, it must be in line with the constitution."

Tell the reds to take over Govt House and the airport, it will be lawful, in line with the constitution and no reds will be charged!
